Synopsis
Russian stars Pyotr Fyodorov and Vladimir Mashkov go head to head against each other, equipped with tons of weaponry, in author executive Alexey Mizgirev’s period dramatization, delivered by Alexander Rodnyansky (late Oscar-chosen one ‘Leviathan’).
In spite of the fact that the plot of The Duelist is unique, Russian essayist executive Alexey Mizgirev’s agreeable period show feels like an adjustment of some lost Russian epic novel of the nineteenth century by, say, a contemporary of Ivan Turgenev or Mikhail Lermontov. A clearing pastiche of key tropes of the period, it offers a Romantic saint with a dull past, a manipulative, heartless foe, a distinguished delight who opposes tradition, arranged shady nonnatives, “honorable savages”, and vivid minor characters with distortions.
