Internships at the European Foundation Centre
The European Foundation Centre (EFC) is an independent international not-for-profit association, which aims to promote the work of foundations and corporate funders in and with Europe. Based in Brussels, Belgium this placement offers you the opportunity to live and work in Belgium as well as providing you with essential employment skills.
The EFC is looking for university students wishing to take a one year break from their studies prior to their final year.
The EFC requires enthusiastic flexible interns for the period of one year (2003-2004)
Positions require a responsible individual who is outgoing, yet with a committed and sensible attitude towards work.

Position 1 - AGA and Conference Intern / Chief Executive's Office Intern
Main Duties will include: helping to organise the EFC's Annual Conference and assisting in the smooth operation of the Chief Executive's office. Skills required include: a strong grasp of the English language, (You will be communicating with members of the International Public, so knowledge of another language would be an advantage, but is not essential.) knowledge of Word and strong written and verbal communication skills. Position 2 - Intern in EU Affairs Department
The EU Affairs Department of the European Foundation Centre works to promote the development and the activities of independent funders, and represent their interests vis-à-vis EU institutions. This work is led by the EFC EU Committee and its three Task Forces on legal fiscal and research issues. Job tasks are wide ranging and in addition to general administrative work, include conducting research, organising meetings, contacting European representatives of foundations, contributing to the EFC information bulletins and the development of a reference file on self-regulation initiatives in the Foundation community in Europe, and help updating database and web-based information. Applicants should have very good organisational and written skills, be creative, enthusiastic, have the ability to work independently and have an interest in European affairs. Position 5 - Orpheus Programme Database Intern
Job duties include: maintaining a database of detailed information on funders active in Europe. Involvement in all stages and aspects of book-length directory production from this database; including research, profile writing, editing, and maintenance of record of contacts with funders that appear in directories. Position 6 - Information Intern
Our library and documentation centre in Brussels has an extensive collection on the foundation and corporate funder community in Europe and on a worldwide scale. You will be required to manage the library under supervision. This includes updating the library collection, ordering new publications and carrying out general library duties on a daily basis. You will also deal with information requests and carry out secretarial tasks. You will supervise and update the bibliographical database as well as being responsible for the sales database and maintaining the EFC mailing list. The Community Philanthropy Initiative (CPI), which encourages charitable giving and volunteerism at the local level, is looking for a stagiaire to provide administrative assistance to the CPI team. Position 10 - Intern for WINGS
WINGS (Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support) is an international project which has recently relocated to the EFC. It supports and promotes philanthropy by working with national associations of grantmakers and support organisations for grantmakers, in over 60 countries.
WINGS needs an Intern to organise the small office and provide administrative support for our services (such as regional meetings, peer learning events, research and publications). Duties include: arranging meetings, events and travel for WINGS staff and committees and participants in our programmes; help with note-taking at major meetings; arranging payments and monitoring budgets; liaising with EFC staff and managing the office; helping set up and maintain filing and information systems; assisting in the production and dissemination of publications (print and electronic); administrative support for WINGS services and for the Director (including helping to manage her diary).
You will need to show you are well organised and can work systematically; that you are an effective communicator on the telephone and in writing; have fluent spoken and written English, and a working knowledge of French (any additional language(s) would be an advantage); and good computer skills. There is scope to develop this role to include aspects of research into philanthropy.
