Startup Weekend Prishtina 2011
One week ago, the weekend was entirely different… Instead of hanging out and trying to kill time by watching movie after movie, we were having an intense 54 hours weekend where developers, designers, marketing managers and a bunch of other people gathered to launch businesses and work towards putting up a new entrepreneurial revolution in Kosovo.
Startup Weekend, a global entrepreneurial movement of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities, has achieved to have more than 380 events in more than 90 countries, and for the first time in Prishtina, Kosovo it has achieved to gather more than 60 passionate people with entrepreneurial vision, to pitch their ideas in 60 seconds and find out their future co-founders to continue even after Startup Weekend.
After 13 pitches, 9 teams were formed and started working in an intense ambient filled with fast food, coffee and red bull. Even though outside it was minus 5 degrees, when you opened the door of the working space, it felt like a sauna and you could feel the energy coming towards you since the very first moment you enter. Such an arena has been missing in the market for a very long time and even though people had ideas, they didn’t manage to get support, time or others to work with.

Me & John Sechrest
For some, a 54 hour intense weekend is an impossible way to launch a business, but for those who were at Startup Weekend Prishtina and met people whom they have never known before, it was totally possible.
“You don’t need to prepare for 1 year to do it here. You have an idea, you know the market, you have identified a need, and then here you get ready to be serious and start contacting clients, doing market research, getting help from mentors, getting ready to be pushed and be visible to the world. Basically you start and cut to the chase the fast way” was a comment from one that attended the Startup Weekend Prishtina.
“It feels like big brother” was a comment from someone else, which could be considered true because we were tweeting all the time and we had local and international attention, even after the weekend.
The next event is aimed to be ready for Prishtina in April, but until that time comes you can have a look at the teams, at some pictures and at an awesome video trailer from the event. Those who were at Startup Weekend Prishtina were eager for the next one and those of you who had doubts, the time has come.
JUST DO IT!
