Leukemia
Leukemia is another type of cancer. It is found in blood cells. Blood cells form in the bone marrow (the soft substance in the center of bones). The bone marrow makes different types of blood cells (that flow in vessels and heart), which have different special functions: erythrocytes (red blood cells which carry O2), leukocytes (white blood cells which help fight infections), and platelets (which are responsible for blood clotting).
The bone marrow in people who have leukemia produces abnormal white blood cells (leukocytes). Firstly, leukemia cells function normally, but in time they crowd out normal white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. This causes problems in the bloods functions.

There are three types of leukemia based on how fast the desease develops and spreads:</p>
1. Chronic leukemia – In the first stages of the desease, the abnormal blood cells can still do their work, and there may not be any symptoms. With time it can get worse, and causes symptoms.

2. Acute leukemia – The blood cells are abnormal and don’t carry out their normal function. The number of abnormal cells increases fast, and so acute leukemia worsens quickly.

Leukemia is also divided by the affected white blood cells: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Chronic myeloid leukemia, Acute lymphocytic leukemia, Acute myeloid leukemia.</p>
